JustAnswer Customer: I have a nest thermostat and i am presently on generator power in Florida
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: Just to clarify, do you think this is a larger HVAC problem, or something specific to the thermostat?
JustAnswer Customer: the airconditioner is not working and my nest thermostat states no0 powe on RH red wire
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
JustAnswer Customer: I am in Mich and my family is in FL at my house - the aircondtioner was working fine then i get this error and it stops working
Pearl Wilson: Assistant: Anything else we should know to help you best?
JustAnswer Customer: I am charging the thermostat from the other room that is not connected to the generator to see if a fresh charge of the batt will fix the problem
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Good evening, im Sean and look forward to helping you !
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Let's start with a a few basic questions.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: First of all how long were you with out power before generator?2nd how is the nest wired?
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Does it have a C wire ?
JustAnswer Customer: Generator kicked on as soon as i lost power.
JustAnswer Customer: The hvac has been operating fine untill we got the E74 message stating no power to th th connection
JustAnswer Customer: We have been on generator for two days
JustAnswer Customer: That was the th wire
JustAnswer Customer: Rh
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: O ok, just seeing if it's been days.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Ok, so here's a first few things,Have you checked the breaker?
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: If that's on the go to furnace.and see if power is on at furnace, there is usually a light switch or if it's electric heat there will be 2 breakers.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: I wanna start basic, sometimes when generators kicks in they can send fluctuations in voltage
JustAnswer Customer: I have checked all breakers.
JustAnswer Customer: The nest just shut down - so i am charging the nest control from the other room not on the generator to see if that makes a difference when it has a full charge.
JustAnswer Customer: it takes two hrs to charge.
JustAnswer Customer: The generator and air has been on for two days - so i think it depleted the rechargeable battery.
JustAnswer Customer: This is the first time this error has come up so it could be the Generator voltage fluctuation.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: It's very possible.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Can you find a small wire to use to jump ?
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: I can tell you how to jump wires to turn the AC on that will tell us
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Very simple right at the nest base plate
JustAnswer Customer: Tell me what to do - i will find a wire
JustAnswer Customer: awaiting what wires to jump
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Your wanting ac correct ?
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: If so you should have a r wire plugged into either rc/rh and a YELLOW wire these too connected together should turn the AC on.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Rc/rh to G should turn blower on.
JustAnswer Customer: These are two tests When rh and Yellow are connected will the blower come on when the air conditioner cools or do i have to place two jumpers from the RH to get both the ac to run and blower to run
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Sometimes on newer equipment it will turn blower on
JustAnswer Customer: If not then i have to run two jumpers?
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Yeah
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Have you tried rh to yellow yet?
JustAnswer Customer: Hmm, obviously i do not reconnect the nest control- right?
JustAnswer Customer: just jump the wires and disconnect when the temp is lower.
JustAnswer Customer: Manual controlling the AC on and off?
JustAnswer Customer: what happens if i just join the three wires together.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: No leave the nest off if it's charging.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Your bypassing.the thermostat.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Don't join all 3.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: I would just do rh/y I don't no if they miswired something down at furnscr or something, sometimes people use different wires for different things.
JustAnswer Customer: I am trying to get to that - the problem is: i am in Michigan and my family is in Naples FL dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane.
JustAnswer Customer: I will have to call them and talk them through this process - with people that are not so well suited for this.
JustAnswer Customer: I just need to make sure i am well versed before i try and talk them through the process
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: Absolutely ask any questions.
HvacmanSean: HVAC Technician: If your not there you may be better off just having them wait for nest to recharge.
JustAnswer Customer: it is important to know what to do and what not to do.
JustAnswer Customer: I am sure you agree
