August is national Gastroparesis awareness month! To celebrate the occasion, here is brand new #GPPieFaceChallenge PSA video that depicts the invisible nature of Gastroparesis.

Gastroparesis (GP) is a crippling stomach condition that affects millions on a daily basis. GP is the paralyzation of the stomach meaning one cannot eat, digest, or absorb nutrients. Although GP affects each individual warrior differently, the main symptoms are nausea, frequent vomiting, bloating, severe weight fluctuations, and malnutrition. It's like living life with the flu every single day of your life. To make things worse, there is no known cure & few effective treatment options for the millions diagnosed.

GP is often refereed too as an invisible illness meaning you can’t always see the many obstacles those diagnosed face, something this video tries to illuminate.

For example, can you imagine being fearful about going out because you’re afraid you will vomit in public? Or how about having a panic attack at holidays or social gatherings because of how you will be perceived by your inability to eat?

Can you imagine the frustration you’d get when explaining to someone what Gastroparesis is and having them not understand? Or better yet, “say you don’t look sick”? How about being a parent/kid with this condition and try to do daily tasks/go to school/play sports? And last but not least, having to wake up everyday starving and dehydrated, and yet, knowing your body will work against you. These are just some of the “invisible” battles many GP Warriors face.

Just because we don’t have obvious and visible symptoms, doesn’t make our battle any less valid

⁣Please consider joining the many celebrities/athletes in taking on the #GPPieFaceChallenge to help raise awareness and find a cure. All you need is whipped cream, a camera, and some creativity! 😊⁣

Together, we can bring GP into the light & #SmashGP for good💪⁣
