Opium Factory in Ghazipur: Dialogue between Past and Present

The presentation articulates the historical past of the opium factory in Ghazipur. The factory was started by the the colonial government in 1820. Since then, it is operational and it is managed by the government of India after Independence. The factory was an important economic avenue for the colonial government. It served their economic interests however a huge number of the small farmers associated with this labour intensive cultivation. Now, the local farmers stopped the harvesting and the government procures it from the other parts of India.
