Dave Rubin Taking Cringe Comedy To Another Level

Dave Rubin Taking Cringe Comedy To Another Level

We all know that @The Rubin Report is not funny. Dave Rubin is also not funny. If it weren't for the destruction that his politics leave in his wake, we would almost feel bad for him. But we don't feel bad for him, and in this clip we watch Rubin do a fake "hot mic/live camera" moment, during which he downs fake shots of tequila in order to fake cope with the fact that Gavin Newsom is still the governor of California and Larry Elder is still just a radio host. It's unclear why this would be funny even if it were real, as it insinuates that he doesn't care about a huge political story in the state he lives in? Anyway, it's sad.

Emma Vigeland: Dave Rubin seems to be pretending to take a shot of tequila after Larry Elder lost.
Matt Lech: Oh yeah, this is just Dave Rubin's comedy chops. Look at the master dusting off his old skills.
EV: And our our king, DJ Danarchy put this together for us, and for just the general audience to enjoy. I won't even preface it anymore. Take it away, DJ Danarchy.
DR: I cannot believe we have to do a show today, guys. This is seriously a freaking nightmare. Like this is an absolute nightmare. Cali is freaking destroyed. But we'll do it. We got a job to do, right? Like no matter what, we got a job to do. So this is the good stuff, you know. The Don Julio. Let me just... I cannot believe I have to tell people that there's hope. What? We're live? We're live. Um, hey. How are ya. It's September 15th.
EV: I remember that, but I wouldn't have thought to put those two things together. Brilliant. Brandon Sutton: I didn't realize he was supposed to not be on like that. I just thought that he had started.
EV: I mean it's obvious he knew that it had started and he was pretending that he was knocking back shots of tequila. It's kind of it's like, he's not that stupid to think that he wasn't playing at all.
BS: Oh no, I get that that's what he wanted me to believe in after the fact, but it was displayed so poorly through his own mannerisms, I didn't pick up. You know, he didn't sell it. I didn't realize it was supposed to be off air.
EV: Well he tried to with that maniacal laugh after. "I'm so upset about this," as if he has really any emotional attachment to the recall effort in California. Although he did say that he thinks that him and Scott Baio could get Larry Elder to victory. And he'd take that up against... what was the the other celebrities?
BS: Usher, [ __ ] and Priyanka Chopra.
ML: To see the content of that joke is where it really gets let down because that whole act about like "Oh gosh, I'm gonna drink this, and I have to tell people there's hope." The funny thing to say in a hot mic situation is to talk [ __ ] about somebody, and everybody's like oh! I'm pretty sure we've done this on that show before and talk [ __ ] about someone that you want to act like you don't want it to get out, but it gets out, that's funny. This, "I'm lying to you, I need to drink to do so." Yeah. That bit isn't great.
