At least five people were injured, one of them by an NYPD officer, after gunfire broke out in Upper Manhattan early Monday, police said.
It happened around 4 a.m. outside the 11:11 Restaurant and Lounge in the vicinity of 10th Avenue and West 211th Street in the Inwood neighborhood, according to authorities.
Police officers in the area witnessed a group involved in a "strong discussion" outside the vicinity and walked toward them, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol Juanita Holmes.
The group then walked up the block and heard shots fired, Holmes said.
The officers ducked for cover and later fired shots at the suspect, striking the shooter in the hip, according to police.
At least four others were injured as a result of the gunfire, police said. They are expected to survive.
The suspect's firearm was recovered, Holmes said.
