In a major development, the area of Shantinagar which is home to hundreds of houses has been finally shown as settlement area, after being removed as a parking lot of the Goa Airport as shown earlier in the ODP 2030 plan.
Speaking to reporters, MPDA Chairman and Cuncolim BJP MLA Clafascio Dias said though the ODP 2030 was opened about a year ago, the MPDA could not take up a meeting for almost a year due to the pandemic.
“The MPDA had taken up a lot of important proposals for the ODP 2030, including the removal of Shantinagar as a parking lot of Goa Airport.”
"A lot of residents in Shantingar had expressed concerns and were living in fear that their houses would be demolished after the area was shown as the parking lot of Goa Airport in ODP 2030.”
“We have removed the parking area at Shantinagar and shown it as settlement. We have also taken up the proposal of multi-level car parking at Vasco, considering the shortage of parking space and the Vasco Fish market at Vasco.”
“The other main proposals taken up in the meeting is a mini fish market and development of old power house at Baina, market complex at Sada Junction, community hall, swimming pool and playground at Sada," said Dias.
He said another important issue proposed is on the long-pending Chief Officer’s Bungalow which is a golden Jubilee project of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).
“Besides, this one more important proposal was a change of zone from S1 to C1 of government properties like Junta Quarters which are in dilapidated condition.”
“We have also proposed sites for the final rites of all communities like a burial ground, cemetery and a Crematorium at Sada. We have also proposed a pumping station at Non Mon, Down Mangor, Orulem ,Uddir ,Belabain and Vaddem," said Dias.
The MPDA chairman said an area of around 15,570 sq mtrs was earmarked for a mini market at Chicalim and an area of 26,630 sq mtrs was earmarked for a children's park and playground at Dabolim, while a cyclone shelter is proposed at Dabolim opposite NSD.
"We have also earmarked an area of 7,930 sq mtrs owned by Goa Housing board at Upasnagar for a mini market in Sancoale, besides proposing an electrical substation and market complex that will be developed by GSIDC in Zuarinagar.”
“We have also earmarked an area for a cyclone shelter, a police station and a Hindu Crematorium at Sancoale Village. We have also proposed a school playground at Chicalim and a parking space for Bogmalo Beach visitors," said Dias.
