1. Verb +着 indicates the action is in progress
Sometimes used with “正在/正/在……呢”
正在/正/在 + Verb + 着 + Object +(呢)
Eg 我正在吃着饭呢。I am eating.
2. Verb/adj. + 着 indicates the continuation of a state.
Eg 门开着。 The door is open。
The negative form 没 + Verb/adj. + 着
Eg 门没开着。 The door is not open
3. Place + verb + 着 + something / somebody = there be ……
Eg 桌上放着一瓶水。 There is a bottle of water on the table.
4. Verb 1 + 着 + Verb 2
indicates two actions take place or go on at the same time . Verb 2 is the main action, while Verb 1 expresses the main action's manner or accompaniment.
Eg: 我躺着看书。 I read books while lying
5. Verb 1 + 着 + Verb 1 , Verb 2
Verb 2 occurs when Verb 1 is going on
Eg 我走着走着下雨了。 It’s raining while I am walking
